The issue it seems with dishes and laundry is that I am simply not interested in doing such tasks. I’d much rather be sewing or playing with fabric or designing a new project or perhaps reading about sewing, fabric or designing. All of those things are very interesting. But doing dishes? Laundry?
These things are less interesting that a snail, no offense to snails.
I am sure I am not the only one who experiences time warp when doing something I love to do. One hour of sewing feels like 10 minutes while 10 minutes of dishes feels like F-O-R-E-V-E-R! My “preteen” son assures me this is a real phenomenon. Evidently it occurs when he tries to clean his room as well.
Maybe this is a hint, a clue left to let us know we have stumbled onto what God has placed in our hearts- our gifting. When we discover the task we love more than all else, the task that makes time fly by and all other things pale in comparison, we have found our gifting. Service often feels this way too- that time has flown by and my heart is fuller than when I began.
Today I hope all of us find and cherish our God given talents, that we discover our gifting and offer it back in service, and that maybe dishes and laundry be a bit more interesting!
